Jillian came to visit us for a week over the 4th of July weekend,
1999. It was an eventful week (I only wish I had taken more pictures! :-)One of our activities included taking a day off in the middle of the week and go to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH. It is a moderate sized amusement park filled with all sorts of rides and activities, including several water slides and a new ride called the Boston Tea Party (where a large boat shaped car with about 20 people in it goes down a *water* slide to the pool below SOAKING everyone in the boat as well as all of the observers watching from the bridge overhead. The wave made when this thing hits the water, sprays the entire observation bridge and at least 30 feet of the surrounding walkways and almost goes into the shops! We began our outing leisurely, as we arrived at the park about an hour before the rides opened up. So, we just lazed around and checked out what rides we wanted to go on. One of the early rides that Jen and Jillian went on (Kathy and I didn't go on many rides, with me only going on one ride (the loop-d-loop rollercoaster with jen)), was a nice slow, quiet ride called the ParaTroopers. But it started the day out right. After that, Kathy, Jillian and Jen went on a fast, enclosed ride (psyco-dome). No pictures of that, as there was no light... Another wild ride (that I wouldn't get on on a bet!) was the Turkish Twist. You go into this round room. They spin the room up till you are held to the wall then they drop the floor away from you. I tried to get a picture, but upon viewing it I realized that I missed Jen and Jillian completely. Still, it does make for a neat picture. Another fun ride is the Pirate Ship. I've ridden this one before and it does make me queasy so I bowed out. If you look closely, you can see Jillian and Jen near the upper center of the picture. At several points of the trip, Kathy and/or I simply sat back to read our books as the kids took in a ride. It was a quiet, pleasant afternoon. Most of the humidity had left the area, though it was still hot (in the 90's) We also took time out of the day to take a quiet ride
on the tram across the park. You get a wonderful view of the park from here, as
well as all of the beautiful gardens that abound in the
park.
All in all we had a wonderful day, and a fun visit with Jillian. Next time I'll be better at taking more pictures. Hope you enjoy this visit to the park as much as we did! Oh, and, by the way, here is the un-touched version of that picture of Jen and Jillian sitting on the bench. It's amazing what you can do with digital photograph these days :-) |
